America’s Great Divide passes through New Mexico, Colorado,
Wyoming and Montana. It follows the Rocky Mountains for over
three thousand miles before heading North through Canada to Alaska
and South through Mexico and South America. Precipitation falling
east of the Divide ultimately drains into the Atlantic Ocean,
while that falling west of the Divide finds its way to the Pacific.
In Montana’s Glacier National Park, there is a three-way divide,
with water also flowing to the Arctic Ocean. In Wyoming,
the Continental Divide splits, forming the Great Basin, an area
of over 2 million acres where water cannot flow out and therefore
sinks into the ground.
Along The Continental Divide visits
many interesting places on or near the Divide, from a
once lawless ghost town to our most inspiring national parks.
Board a steam train to yesteryear, explore the Gila Cliff Dwellings,
see how a mountain town is preserving its past, trek the high
wilderness of the Rocky Mountains and marvel at the wonders of
Great Sand Dunes, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks
with filmmaker Gale Worth.
