Jim Tompkins grew up surrounded by the gorges and waterfalls of the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, where he gained an early admiration of nature and landscapes. He studied Film Production and Art History at Ithaca College, acquiring a Bachelors degree in Cinematography. His travel lectures have been presented throughout the United States, including the National Geographic Society in Washington and the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh. Emigrant Road is his first travelogue.
